Meet "Buckley"

Originally known as...Purple! (updated with correct puppy pic!)
This is Jenna, proud owner of Buckley (aka the Hamburglar). Well, what can I say, when you asked for a story, so many came to mind. Buckley is quite the character. When he was only a few months old, I was taking him for a walk around the park when we stumbled upon the lake. At the first sight of water, Buckley could hardly contain himself. With lightning speed, he wiggled out of his collar and was swimming laps around the pond before I could even fathom what had just happened. You could say he took a joy ride in the lake. As I was frantically looking around to see if any passers by had noticed this incident, I called for Buckley to come (a command we were still working on) and much to my surprise he stopped swimming around the lake, and excitedly dashed toward me, his fur dripping wet. Needless to say, it was quite the experience trying to get Buckley’s collar back on without getting drenched in wet dog. This was the moment I realized that it is not a clean job to be a dog owner and my life and house would never be the same.

You might be wondering how Buckley got his nickname (the Hamburglar). Well, it was a cold winter night. I had decided to make chili. I took a pound of hamburger out of the freezer and began to thaw it. I chopped some onions and put them in the frying pan. I opened the package of hamburger and placed it in the pan with the onions so I could brown it. I went to the sink and washed my hands (I always practice safe food handling). When I turned around to cook the hamburger, I noticed it wasn’t in the pan. I thought to myself, where did I put it? I had taken it out of the package hadn’t I? Then, it dawned on me when I heard the scamper of paws on the wood floor. I turned to face Buckley who was staring at me with wide eyes, tail wagging, and a pound of hamburger hanging from his jowls. Yes, Buckley had nabbed the hamburger right from the pan. He saw an opportunity and he took it. I should have been furious, but I had to smile, it’s hard to resist those puppy brown eyes.

Thanks for putting all the stories together. I am excited to read them! It has truly been a joy to have Buckley in our lives. Attached are some pictures of him.

What a handsome boy! Geoff had also mentioned that in Buckley's first few weeks at home his nickname was "Buttwheat", given to him by some neighbor kids who found 'Buckley' a little hard to say. : ) Thanks for your stories, Jenna! We are so thrilled that Buckley is in a happy home!
