Happy Memorial Day

We have four babies!

You can see what they looked like two weeks ago here. I am fascinated with these Springtime babies. I stand at our bedroom window and watch for Mama Robin to come and feed them. I usually catch her doing it, too. I think that's all she does all day long...search for food for her babies. When she comes, they stand up really high out of the nest and make quite a racket. She is a very dedicated mama and it is so neat to watch her.

Tonight we had another wildlife experience, but a bit more strange. There was a fox at the park, and he acted like he wanted to play with Buddy Buddy. He followed us all over, and Buddy chased after him once. Daddy called him back, and then the fox turned around and chased after Buddy! He didn't get too close or act agressive, he just seemed very interested. He looked like a young guy, so hopefully he was just another spring baby and not rabid or sick. He certainly didn't seem sick. He never got close enough to me or KK to make me uncomfortable, but we had never seen a fox behave like that before. If we see him again, I'll name him Two Socks. (If you know my favorite movie of all time, you know where that came from...) Some neighbors caught some pictures that they are going to e-mail to us, if they are good I'll post them.

We've had a lot of birthdays and graduations this month. KK's cousin Cameron graduated this weekend. Congratulations, Cam! We've also been getting ready for some trips and keeping up with work. Things are busy here, and life is great. : )

She's got her ducks in a row...

Here is KK's most recent organizational project: I haven't been posting because I've been sick. Again. I finally broke down and went to the doctor today. I must be getting close to being immune to all of the viruses out there. Seriously. I swear by now I've had them all. This one is a sinus infection. That's just the way it goes when you're around kids a lot. It's worth it. : ) I felt a little better tonight and stayed up late trying to catch up with work. Tomorrow will be more of the same.

KK wore this dress to her cousin Faith's graduation this weekend. (Congratulations, Faith!) I just loved how it tied in the back. And it was only $4! Our local children's consignment shop is the best!

Weirdness

A couple of days ago, KK started to occasionally call me by my first name. The first time she did it, it was so clear and deliberate that it freaked me out a little bit. I didn't think that this was supposed to happen until she was a teenager!!! She only does it a couple of times a day. I guess I shouldn't be surprised; it's not like she hasn't heard me called by my name a million times. But still, it was really weird to hear her call me by my name out of the blue!

In other weirdness around here, KK's is intent on having her dollies/stuffed animals sit straight up. If she can't get them balanced just right, she cries "Sit Help! Sit Help!" until she can get it right. She's quite persistent with her attemps, and it's hilarious to watch her. I guess this isn't really that weird, but sometimes it feels strange to walk into a room where it looks like a bunch of stuffed animals and dolls are having a conference. Did you check out those pigtails?!? They make her look like such a big girl! Of course we thought they were cute, but for now we've gone back to just the one pony-sprout. It's part of the morning routine, and KK doesn't let me forget. "Pony in? Pony in? PONY IN?!" We all love the pony-sprout.

And speaking of weird things, what the he!! happened on TV tonight? I guess it's partly my fault. I thought it was a no-brainer, so I didn't vote. And it seems that everyone else must have thought the same thing, so they didn't vote either. WHY DIDN'T WE VOTE??? Now she’s gone. And it's not worth watching anymore. It was pretty much the only show I really like to watch and now it just won't be the same. It's not like I don't like the last two standing...but I was sure she'd be the one. There is no question that she is the best. I guess that's show business. I'm just sad I'll have to wait so long to buy her first album. She'll probably be a lot more successful without the stupid title attached to her anyway. I'm sorry we let you down, Melinda. : (

Happy Mother's Day!

We had a very special day today. It started with brunch with some friends, a walk to the park, and then Grandma M came to visit. This afternoon I ended up asleep on the couch and was allowed to take a two hour(+?) nap. Daddy and Grandma got dinner ready and I don't remember a thing. We had steak and salmon (and margaritas!) and more friends came over to visit. (Congratulations to Anna on graduating from Creighton's nursing school as a Registered Nurse...AND getting a great job in Manhattan, NYC!!! When can we visit? :) )

I also want to wish a special happy Mother's Day to the mama Robin who has built an elaborate nest in the tree outside our bedroom window...and sits in there ALL the time, day and night. She's one dedicated mama! I tried to catch a picture of her, but she didn't trust me and flew away when I got too close. I hope she doesn't mind that I reached into her tree and snapped a picture of her babies-to-be instead.

Happy Mother's Day, Moms!

Our School Girl

KK only goes to pre-school one day a week, but we're already feeling the full effect of the school thing. We've been "invited" to participate in a school fundraiser (different from the music school one) to raise money for school supplies. So, we are selling Butter Braids..."Hand-braided pastry with layers of 100% real butter, filled with a delicious variety of fruit fillings. Frosting pack included!" Anyone want to support K's pre-school while clogging an artery or two? I didn't think so. : )

She also had her first school portrait taken. (Note to self: Next time it is school picture day, remember to dress your daughter in a cute outfit and at least put a pony in her hair so she doesn't look quite so much like a boy.) Yeah, great Mom that I am I totally forgot it was picture day. I think they turned out cute anyway, and we bought this one. Because, you know, we don't have enough pictures of her already. (What I'd really like to know is how in the heck they got her to look at the camera AND smile!!!!!)

Here is her class picture...she is the oldest in her class!!! **Sigh**

Re-entry

Our trip to Minneapolis was wonderful! I wish I could have pushed "pause" so that I could have spent more time with people. There is just never enough time. It's always hard for me to adjust when I come back. Not that I don't want to come back here - it's just that I don't want to leave there. If that makes sense. Anyway, there were only a couple of things we didn't get to do that I had hoped to, but we were able to spend a lot of time visiting our family and friends (just not enough time) and that was the most important thing. On the next trip I'll take KK on a bike ride along my favorite trail in the world and I'll catch a flick at the Riv! And I'll schedule lunches with people that I didn't get enough time with. I guess I'll have to stay a year! : )

Here are a few pics...

When I was in elementary school, there was a playground in the grassy area next to the trees in this picture. There was play equipment made of lumber and it was called the "big" playground.

This is the school's playground today, built over the old basketball court and hopscotch paintings. Holy moly! I guess hopscotch is so...yesterday. It's a beautiful playground with its own zip code, and KK had a great time in it! (And look at all the trees in the background! Ooooh, how I miss trees!)

Even though re-entry has been a little emotional, we're getting back into our regular routine. We worked at the club yesterday. KK went to school today, and I worked from home. Laundry is getting done. Dinner is being served. We're blogging. Life is good. We hope you are too!

We're leaving on a jet plane...

In the morning, KK and I will be on our way to a long weekend visit in Minnesota. It will be so nice to see everyone! I would really like to avoid bringing 'all things Mickey' but I fear being without the Mickey Menagerie at bedtime. Maybe we'll bring one Mickey book and one video and hope that it ties her over for a few nights...wish me luck.
